The experience

Overview

The Master of Urban and Cultural Heritage is a both a pathway to a career in Heritage and a pathway to Graduate Research.

Internships and Vocational Placement

Vocational Placements, also known as Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or Experiential Learning, are a valuable way for students to get hands-on experience in industry while studying.

Students can undertake a MUCH Heritage Industry Internship or an Urban and Cultural Heritage Internship as part of their studies. Students are allocated an academic supervisor and a host supervisor prior to starting the placement. These two roles provide students an important source of support throughout the placement and the ensuing report is submitted for academic credit.

Research

This program is also a pathway to undertaking a PhD through completion of the Urban and Cultural Heritage Minor Thesis.

Researchers from our Australian Centre for Architectural History, Urban and Cultural Heritage recently hosted a symposium for early-career researchers including University of Melbourne academics and international experts. Learn more about ongoing research in built environment and heritage.

Profile

Benjamin Petkov

“As part of my degree, I completed an internship with Extent amounting to four weeks of full-time placement (160 hours). This practical hands-on industry exposure equipped me with an understanding of the workings of a professional workplace and offered a chance to practice everything I had been taught in my degree. My engaging in the MUCH Heritage Industry Internship can be understood as being inextricably linked to my current employment.” Benjamin Petkov. Master of Urban and Cultural Heritage student.
